Fifteen years ago, I met a big guy (6’8”, to be precise) with big ideas.
His big ideas had by then taken him to all fifty states (most via a round-the-country road trip in an extended cabin van) and around the globe (including Ethiopia, Japan, Malta, and Egypt). We carried laptops and seat cushions to every coffeehouse in Santa Barbara as I worked on my Sociology PhD and he completed his MBA and law degree. I joined up with his brother Zack and best friend Ryan on support crew as he completed an epic 35-hour bike ride across 508 miles in Death Valley, CA.
We adventured to Washington, DC, together for three years, where Brandon Bruce asked me to marry him next to the roaring waters of Great Falls national park. In Fall 2007, we moved to East Tennessee when I accepted a tenure-track professor position at Maryville College.
In 2012, Brandon and Ryan co-founded Cirrus Insight. Their company landed #41 on the Inc. 500 list last year; they now employ 65 people. Brandon’s big ideas started spreading into the Knoxville community: he became active in the Knoxville Entrepreneur Center, mentored youth, and joined the boards of Junior Achievement and The Muse. He was named Knoxville’s 2016 entrepreneur of the year and is a graduate of the 2017 Leadership Knoxville class.
Brandon has big ideas for Knoxville.
When Brandon submitted his paperwork to run for City Council, District 2, I was proud to be his first signatory. You can lend your support, too, by liking his campaign Facebook page (Brandon Bruce for Knoxville City Council) and voting for him in the August 29, 2017 primary and November 7, 2017 election.
I’m excited to be a part of this new adventure!
